The mission of the Armed Forces in this health crisis has been baptized with the aforementioned name Operation Balmis, in tribute to the military doctor Francisco Javier Balmis, who led between 1803 and 1806 a humanitarian expedition to bring the smallpox vaccine to the territories of the Spanish empire in the 19th century.
